The Ocala Advantage

  • The "Sunrise & Peach" Palette: Famous for producing females across a soft, warm spectrum—ranging from delicate peach and coral to rich honey-tan and warm apricot.
  • Mainland Class Size: Significantly larger and chunkier than Caribbean island locales (like Bahamas or Isla). Ocala delivers a broad, stocky, and visually impressive display spider without feeling oversized.
  • Shimmering Chelicerae: Their warm pastel coats are beautifully set off by metallic, iridescent mouthparts that flash shades of deep magenta, violet, and shimmering teal.
  • Curious & Outgoing: Known for their calm, steady confidence. They love perching high in their enclosures to keep an eye on their surroundings and observe their keepers.

Specifics for i5/i6 Juveniles

  • Size: Currently approx. 7 - 12mm (established, sturdy juveniles well past the delicate early sling stage).
  • Current Diet: Hunting Green Bottle Flies with complete confidence and predatory precision.
  • Appearance: At i5/i6, these juveniles are stepping out of their basic "juvenile tuxedo." You will begin to see early hints of their adult traits—female abdominal patterns start shifting toward peach/tan, and metallic chelicerae shimmers become visible under bright light.
  • Hardiness: Hardier and more resilient than early instars, making them an ideal choice for both new and experienced keepers.
  • Sexing: Sold as unsexed.

UK Care Requirements

  • Humidity: 65% – 75%. Provide a light misting on one side of the enclosure every 1–2 days to ensure proper hydration and smooth molts.
  • Temperature: Prefers 24°C – 28°C. In the UK, a thermostat-controlled heat mat mounted to the side or back of the setup is essential to keep their metabolism active.
  • Lighting: Bright, indirect light is crucial. Plenty of light simulates the Florida sun, encouraging active hunting and basking behavior.

Feeding & Growth

Our i5/i6 Ocala juveniles are established and active hunters.

  • Current Diet: Currently hunting Green Bottle flies. Watching them stalk, track, and pounce on flying prey provides fantastic physical and mental enrichment.
  • Future Feeder Upsize: As your spider matures into a sub-adult at the i8 stage, we recommend upsizing from Green Bottles to Bluebottle flies to provide the increased nutrition and prey size required for their final molts into full mainland adults.
