About Bugs & Beyond
We're a small, specialist UK business doing one thing with a lot of love: breeding, raising, and rehoming some of the most characterful spiders in the hobby.
Bugs & Beyond was started by Clare — based in Lincolnshire UK — after years of keeping and breeding jumping and velvet spiders as a passion that quietly became an obsession. What began with a single Phidippus regius sling has grown into a dedicated captive-breeding programme covering multiple Phidippus locales, velvet spiders, and the livefood and accessories that go with them.
We're not a warehouse. Every animal we sell has been bred, raised, and fed here — by us, with full knowledge of its lineage, health history, and temperament.
Our breeding programme
All of our jumping and velvet spiders are UK captive-bred. That matters for a few reasons.
Wild-caught animals carry unknown stress history, potential parasites, and travel trauma. Captive-bred animals — particularly slings raised from known, healthy parentage — arrive calmer, are already accustomed to feeding on the livefood you'll be offering, and tend to establish far more quickly in a new enclosure.
Our Phidippus regius stock spans 10 distinct locales — from the deep-orange giants of the Florida Everglades to the high-contrast rarities of the Sierra de Bahoruco and Caribbean island lines. We also work with Phidippus otiosus (the Canopy Jumping Spider), Phidippus bidentatus, and the striking Epeus flavobilineatus from Southeast Asia.
Every spider we sell is at minimum i4 — an instar stage at which they are robust enough to ship safely and are feeding reliably on Drosophila hydei fruit flies. We don't sell newborns.
Livefood, enclosures, and everything in between
Keeping spiders well means keeping their food supply well. We sell the livefood we actually use ourselves: green bottle fly casters, blue bottle casters, live fruit flies (Drosophila melanogaster and D. hydei), and feeders including curly-wing flies and various roach species.
Our enclosure range is built around what works — not what looks flashy in a photo. The Micro Sanctum sling enclosure was designed specifically for jumping spider slings at the i4–i6 stage, with an acrylic canopy top that provides the cross-ventilation and overhead access these spiders need. Our accessories, dry goods, and terrarium décor are selected and stocked because we've tested them with our own animals first.
What we care about
We don't dispatch live animals in conditions that are unsafe for them. During cold snaps, we hold orders until temperatures allow safe transit. During heatwaves, we adjust packaging and timing to prevent overheating. We'll always tell you if conditions aren't right, rather than ship and hope.
Every order includes care guidance relevant to the animal or product you've bought. If you have questions after delivery — about feeding, moulting behaviour, enclosure setup, or anything else — we're here. Drop us a message through the contact page or reach us directly on Instagram or TikTok.
We're hobbyists who turned specialist. We enjoy talking about these animals, and we'd rather you ask us something than quietly worry about it.
Live animal guarantee
Every spider we ship is guaranteed to arrive alive and in good health. If something goes wrong in transit, contact us within 24 hours of delivery with a photo, and we will make it right.
We ship via Royal Mail Tracked —24-hour & Royal Mail Special Delivery services depending on the order, always with full tracking to your door. We do not ship on Fridays to avoid animals sitting in sorting facilities over the weekend.
